2. A little about me…
I received a Masters degree in Elementary Education from St. Xavier University. This is my fifth year teaching 3rd grade. Before Foster, I worked as a grant project manager for the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Education Center at SXU. I teach Science Methods there for student teachers. My goals include integrating 21st century learning into the third grade curriculum.
I live with my husband and three children in Orland Park. My oldest son graduated in Biochemistry from Loyola University. My daughter is at Sandburg H.S. and my youngest son is in 8th grade. I love teaching and I am blessed to work in such a wonderful district with such great families!

Our 3rd grade curriculum and pacing guides for Reading and Math follow the Illinois
Common Core State Standards
3rd Grade ELA Standards
Students participate in Daily 5 activities such as reading to self, writing, technology centers, and reading to someone. In addition to reading at school, it is important that your child read at home for at least 15 minutes each day. Book reports and book talks or other projects may also be assigned.
3rd Grade Math Standards
We use the Go Math series that is aligned with the common core standards. We also use several practice websites such as XTRAMath.org and KhanAcademy.org to practice multiplication, division, measurement, fractions, and geometry.

4. PBIS
Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) is a program designed to prevent and respond to classroom and school discipline issues.   PBIS helps to create and maintain safe learning environments, where teachers can teach and students can learn.

5. Token Economy
A Token Economy is a behavior system designed to increase desirable behaviors and decrease undesirable behaviors with the use of Pride Paws.

6. Schedule Student Arrival 8:30-8:45 AM Class Begins 8:50 AM
Class Ends 3:20 PM
Gym is every day for 25 minutes
Music/Art is on Wednesday and Friday for
30 minutes
Library/Technology is 45 minutes on Mondays.

7. LION Folder
The LION Folder contains everything students and families need to keep up-to-date with what is going on at school. It will help students become responsible and organized.
The folder will contain the weekly newsletter, monthly calendar, breakfast & lunch calendars, homework helpers, daily homework, and important notes.
This folder will serve as your child’s homework folder.
Students need to bring his/her LION Folder back
and forth to school every day.

Weekly Newsletter
What’s Happening in Room 144?
This newsletter will inform you of all important news, events, and upcoming tests for the week. It will include weekly spelling words, reading vocabulary words, and all other concepts being taught in each specific subject area for the week.
My newsletter is updated weekly and posted on Weebly for your viewing. You can access Weebly through the district website Click on Lee R. Foster Elementary School, then Staff Directory, and then click on my name.
A hard copy of the newsletter will also be sent home on
Fridays in the weekly newsletter section of your child’s
LION Folder.

9. Homework and the Assignment Notebook
Homework is a very important component of the learning process. Assignment books are filled out at the beginning of every school day. Please help your child to get into a habit of completing homework every night and returning it in their L.I.O.N folders.
In third grade, your child will be receiving homework daily with the exception of Fridays.

10. Snack: Students may bring one healthy snack to eat during snack time each morning.
Birthday Treats at School must be a non-food item.
The Student of the Week can
present a science experiment to go along with their poster.
