Overview of Conference Medically unexplained symptoms (MUS) or ‘functional’ symptoms are one of the most commonly encountered symptoms across all healthcare settings. One-third of patients presenting to hospital clinics have symptoms that are unexplained by organic disease. These symptoms are also responsible for a large proportion of disability in the workforce and decreased quality of life. They represent an important clinical phenomenon with considerable health and economic consequences. This full-day event will cover conceptual and diagnostic challenges and treatment approaches in the management of MUS. This is a CPD approved event and has been awarded 4 CPD credits by the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). This is an opportunity for practitioners to hear from experienced clinicians from relevant disciplines including: Psychology, Psychiatry, Neurology, Physiotherapy and other allied health professionals – all of whom have expertise in working with MUS.
