Lord Layard recognised the need to have over 250,000 therapists across the country to help deal with the increasing numbers of people with mental health issues….specifically depression and anxiety 1 in 6 adults suffer from mental illness at any time Only 39% of adults discuss this with their GP Nice guidelines state that CBT has the evidence base to successfully treat patients with anxiety and depression.

3 10/3/2015 7:20:40 AM Improving Access to Psychological Therapies One principal aim: To support Primary Care Trusts in implementing the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines for people suffering from depression and anxiety disorders.

4 10/3/2015 7:20:40 AM IAPT Target Population Aged 18+ suffering from at least one of the following conditions, either as a sole or co-morbid diagnosis: Depression Anxiety including: Panic Disorder with or without agoraphobia Phobias Health Anxiety Generalised Anxiety disorder Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (including Body Dysmorphic Disorder)

5 10/3/2015 7:20:40 AM Aims of IAPT To make access to psychological therapies easier- eg: hearing impaired people can access face to face help, people with visual impairments or physical disabilities can work over the phone if that is easier for them To reduce the stigma associated with mental health by having sessions in ‘ordinary community’ places such as GP surgeries, community centres, colleges, libraries To get people better, back to work or working more efficiently

6 10/3/2015 7:20:40 AM Top 10 Things you need to know about IAPT 1.IAPT in Gloucestershire launched the 28th Sept 09 for people 18+; and is called Lets Talk - the telephone number is 0800 0732200 2. Lets Talk will provide psychological treatment, initially CBT, for people with anxiety and depression 3. Lets Talk will see over 6,000 people for treatment each year in Gloucestershire 4. Lets Talk is a robust new system and service, with over 40 new clinical staff & further expansion is planned in April 2010

Lets Talk will provide psychological information and treatment using the Stepped Care Model, (least intervention first) increasing capacity :- step 1 in Primary Care; patients and practitioners will have access to self help material via the website, leaflets and Books on Prescription, as well as telephone advice from 0800 0732200 step 2 in IAPT via 0800; supported self help using CBT treatments via the telephone, computer and in groups step 3 in IAPT via 0800; formula driven CBT delivered individually or in groups

8 10/3/2015 7:20:40 AM Top 10 cont. 6. Lets Talk has an open referral system; referrals can be made by GP's, via Choose & Book, other PC staff or directly by self. 7. Lets Talk will provide access to assessment within 3 working days and offer treatments, depending on clinical need, within 5 or 14 working days. 8. Lets Talk will be accessible on 0800 0732200 from 8am -7pm Mon- Friday (and Sat mornings, 8-1pm according to need). 9. IAPT is outcome driven and performance managed; all patients will complete questionnaires at regular intervals to ensure appropriateness of treatment and progress to recovery; evaluating patient satisfaction is an integral part of the system 10. IAPT is a new and evolving psychological primary care service and we need your help and input to make it happen in Gloucestershire; we welcome your comments and feedback.

I would be very interested to hear how we can make the service accessible and suited to the needs of people who are blind or visually impaired If we have a website is that sufficient, ie can you access it in a suitable font or using speech recognition How do you want to be asked about leaflets and posters, currently we say - if you have any special needs or would like this leaflet in another language please ring the free phone number.
