Symptoms Frequent stomach upsets Trouble sleeping Feeling tired all of the time Feeling burned-out at school Frequent migraine or tension headaches Being impatient with other people

General adaptation syndrome (GAS): a series of changes that occur in the body when stress occurs. There are three stages.

1.) Alarm stage: first stage in which adrenaline is secreted into the bloodstream Adrenaline: a hormone that prepares the body for quick action

Resistance stage: the second stage of the GAS when the body attempts to return to normal. Adrenaline is no longer secreted. Heart rate and blood pressure decrease. Digestion begins again. The muscles relax and respiration returns to normal.

Exhaustion stage: the third stage of the GAS in which wear and tear on the body increases the risk of diseases and accidents. This stage of the GAS is usually not experienced if people know how to manage stress
