3 Stress Five Categories of Stress: 1. Biological--Illnesses
2. Environmental--Crowds, poverty 3. Thinking Activities--Directions 4. Personal Behavior--Lack of sleep 5. Life Situations--Death, relationships

4 Stress Response Brain recognizes a dangerous situation.
Allows you to protect yourself. Physical Changes Include: -breathing speeds up -heart beats faster/blood pressure increases -sweating increases -muscles tense up -pupils increase/mouth becomes dry

5 Stress Response Stress can cause illness. Colds/Flu Tension Headaches
Backache Heart Disease/High Blood Pressure Chronic Fatigue Depression

6 Coping with Stress Meditation:
Repeating a word or phrase over and over. Progressive Relaxation: Tighten your muscles and then slowly relax them. Massages: Well worth the money.

7 Coping with Stress Laughing: Nothing better than a good laugh.
Yelling or Crying: Makes you feel better. Physical Exercise: Exercise releases neurotransmitters that make you feel better.

8 Coping with Stress Utilizing your support group.
Talking to someone you trust-- a best friend. Leaning on your spiritual beliefs. Trusting someone that is greater than yourself can get you through rough times.
