Car with Parachute Workshop 1 : Make a canopy of any shape Materials : a plastic bag , string Tools : adhesive tape , scissors Drop your car model attached to the canopy from the second floor. Record the time to reach the ground floor. Where does it land ? How many meters away ?

Conclusions : What factors to make a good parachute ? Big canopy Long line Many lines Light Shape of canopy Drop in vertical ?! Wind problem

Workshop 2 : Search the internet for photos of parachute of different designs such as rectangular , sphere , multiple canopies…

Internet references Workshop 2 : http://precision.aerodynamics.com/tutor/ http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blparachute.htm?iam=howstuffworks_SKD&terms=parachute http://www.howstuffworks.com/ejection-seat2.htm http://www.square1.com/Catalog/Catalog.html http://www.nationalparachute.com/page3.html http://showcase.netins.net/web/herker/ejection/chute.html#quarter%20bag http://www.xs4all.nl/~pdj/chute.htm

Parachute Workshop 2 : Pilot chute apex canopy Suspension line skirt Steering line

Workshop 2 : Fall in vertical or in curve ? WHY ?

Car with Parachute Workshop 3 : Repeat workshop 1 Rope or string - length & how many ? Plastic sheet – shape & size ? How long to reach ground ? Fall in vertical or in curve ? small canopy , short rope ? Big canopy , long rope ? Big canopy , short rope ?

Plastic sheet , adhesive tape Different shapes of parachute Plastic sheet , adhesive tape

Make a 8-sided polygon with one cut Workshop 3 : References : Make a 8-sided polygon with one cut Materials : plastic sheet Tools : scissors X mm X / 2 mm X / 4 mm cut

Workshop 4 : how to hide & open parachute ? Car with parachute thro’ a tunnel how to hide & open parachute ? http://www.xs4all.nl/~pdj/chutfold.htm Program for parachute sizes

Package of parachute

WHY ? Unpackaged of parachute Ground floor

+ + Parachute : canopy & lines Do you need a packet to hold the parachute ?
