Faculty Senate March 20, 2012

What is a campaign? A capital campaign is an organized effort to raise private support within a specific time period for identified priorities of strategic importance.

Why do a campaign? Campaigns authenticate the sense of urgency. They provide a platform. They galvanize, motivate and inspire the campus community. Build a culture of philanthropy – both internally and externally.

What makes a campaign successful? Raising the stated goal. Successfully matching donor and university’s needs. Transforming people and programs. Making a broad impact on our university and our statewide engagement.

What are the priorities of the campaign?

Providing financial resources for students Need and merit-based scholarships – part of our land-grant mission Graduate student support and fellowships Endowed scholarships are a priority as they provide ongoing funds

Outstanding teachers and researchers are in high demand worldwide. Endowed faculty funds are a priority. We are behind our peers in number of endowed positions. These are essential tools in attracting/retaining faculty. These funds are really about the student experience whether that be in the classroom, the lab or the community. A great university is a reflection of its faculty.

First-class laboratory and classroom space is necessary to enable the hands-on research opportunities of our students and support the work of our researchers. Kibbie Dome enhancements New Science and Innovation Center Niccolls Lab Renovations Chemistry/Physics Lab Improvements Hartung Theater Phase I Library Commons Phase I

Distinctive regional, national and international programs allow the University to strengthen its impact, enhance its reputation, and attract exceptional faculty and students. McClure Center Natural resources field studies STEM initiatives Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival Operation Education
