CONSERVATION BEGINS HERE mission: to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of our environment and communities by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land.

CONSERVATION BEGINS HERE  National Conservation Crews – high school students, camping  Community Conservation Crews – high school students, commuting, cities across the country  Internships – 18 years and older, nationwide  Corps – 18 years and older, SCA administered, typically group based  Crew leader - national crew, community crew, corps project leader  Learn more at

CONSERVATION BEGINS HERE  All majors welcome.  Applicants must be current college students between 18 and 25 years of age, and U.S. citizens. Must be currently enrolled in college.  The NPS Academy has four phases designed to maximize career opportunities, training and hands on experiences.

CONSERVATION BEGINS HERE  A joint program between the Student Conservation Association and the National Park Service.  NPS Academy is designed to build a 21st Century workforce for America's national parks: highly motivated, contemporarily skilled, and ethnically diverse.  NPS Academy is a special career preparation initiative for undergraduate and graduate students of color.

CONSERVATION BEGINS HERE  Begin your journey into the US National Park service with a week- long, insider's view into how our natural lands are managed.  Meet with decision-makers and change agents within the various US agencies that collaboratively oversee our public lands.  Expense-paid; travel, meals, and lodging are all provided

CONSERVATION BEGINS HERE  Members will serve in a 12-week paid summer internship with the NPS.  Summer placements include hands-on experiences in environmental education, resource conservation, volunteer coordination, trail maintenance and research, among others.

CONSERVATION BEGINS HERE  Round-trip transportation to internship site  Housing  Weekly living allowance of at least $85/week  AmeriCorps education award possible  Assigned NPS mentor  Hands-on experience

CONSERVATION BEGINS HERE  Deferment of qualified college loans during term of service  $1, hours (8-11 weeks)  $1, hours (12-25 weeks)

CONSERVATION BEGINS HERE  Training, Mentorship, and Experiential Learning  Training and certifications in many internships (some internships include GIS/GPS training, First Aid, professional/technical writing, and so on…)  College credit (if applicable; arrange through campus administration or faculty, not through SCA)

CONSERVATION BEGINS HERE  Members will serve as Academy Ambassadors by reaching out to fellow students on their campuses to generate interest for the next NPS Academy program.  Members will receive training and support in campus outreach from SCA's Recruiting Team.

CONSERVATION BEGINS HERE  As an NPS Academy Ambassador you will help build awareness and recruit top talent at your college campus.  Represent SCA and NPS Academy at a Career Fair and campus events.  Identify and reach out to top students on campus, including students of color with diverse backgrounds and majors.  Examples of outreach – alumni flyer  Peer ambassadors share story today
