Health Officers Association of California HOAC provides its members with Science-based technical assistance Legislative advocacy at the state and federal levels Continuing Medical Education focused on public health A secure online meeting environment Special projects designed to improve the practice of public health Some Recent HOAC Activities HOAC determined the extent of the impact of the economic downturn on public health preparedness in California, using its analysis in several legislative and budgetary efforts. HOAC assured that the state allocated 70% of federal PHER funds to California's cities and counties, resulting in over $72 million given to local health departments. HOAC worked with the University of Pittsburgh to develop and pilot the Public Health System Indicators Project, which seeks to determine what makes one local health department more or less prepared than another. HOAC represents the physician health officers in California's 61 city and county jurisdictions.
