The Public Health Systems Group is a coalition of public health, government, academic and charitable institutions that works to protect & promote the health of Kansans.

Builds on progress made through: Kansas Association of Local Health Departments adopted a vision statement embracing the FPHS model Literature review of FPHS efforts in other states Development of the Kansas FPHS model Creation of Council on the Future of Public Health in Kansas Kansas FPHS Capacity Assessment Future of Public Health in Kansas Fiscal Assessment

4 Public Health National Center for Innovations Grant
Purpose: To build capacity to support implementation of Foundational Public Health Services in Kansas through evaluation, evaluation, tools and technical assistance.

Anticipated outcomes: Review of state public health policies and laws State public health modernization roadmap Statewide performance management system Local pilot project & local Foundational Public Health Services Implementation Manual

6 PHNCI Grant Local Pilot
Purpose: The feasibility study will test local implementation of the Kansas Public Health Modernization Roadmap with respect to (a) increasing service delivery capacity; (b) governance models; (c) implementation pathways; and (d) financing and cost- sharing options. The feasibility study will be conducted through a series of facilitated meetings.

7 PHNCI Grant Local Pilot
Local Pilot Team: Representation from the health department administrator(s), board of health member(s), health and medical providers, and other partners . Will participate in a series of in-person conversations to evaluate conceptual feasibility study.

Anticipated outcomes: Provide critical feedback to inform a final draft of the Kansas Public Health Modernization Roadmap Inform development of a field-tested Local FPHS Implementation Manual.

9 PHNCI Grant Local Pilot
Conditions for a successful pilot: A self-selected group of two or more counties, one of which must be classified as frontier, rural or densely-settled rural A high proportion rural population for participating counties Written letter of support from the respective boards of health and the health department administrator Commitment to participate in the local pilot from other organization(s) working to improve health in the community

Conditions for a successful pilot: Experience with collaboration or partnering to deliver public health services Understanding of the capacity of the current PH workforce Evidence of significant gaps in capacity for public health service delivery. Understanding of current local health priorities  Current KALHD member

11 PHNCI Grant Local Pilot
Available funds: A $20,000 grant will be available to support personnel time to coordinate local activities and assist with primary data collection.

Anticipated Project timeline Letters of interest due mid-August The Pilot Site will be identified in September In-person community meetings will take place between November 2017 and March 2018
