Getting to know you: Autumn 1 This half term our theme is ‘getting to know you’ because that is exactly what we are doing. The children are getting to know the teachers and children in their class. We are getting to know the children and you, the parents. This half term we will be exploring the children and their lives. We will be supporting children in settling down into Nursery routine. We will be talking about families, their homes and the festivals we celebrate. Springfield Nursery

Getting to know you: Curriculum coverage Autumn 1 Personal, Social, Emotional Development: Reading stories about families/rules and routines and making friends. Modelling good behaviour/ sharing and caring. Modelling how to make friend and talking to each other, taking turns. Model talking about interests and preferences. Communication and language: Introduce the langue colour, shape and size. Modelling and encouraging group discussions. Read stories in small groups Language land- listening skills and taking turns Sing songs. Identifying and naming everyday objects ; body parts, home objects, clothing and toys. Physical Development-Health and self care: Encourage and discuss toileting routine. Introduce the role play area (kitchen). Encourage children to fasten their own clothes. Introduce the large playground equipment. Physical Development:- Moving and handling: Encourage climbing, rolling, crawling In the outdoor environment/ hall time. Use different materials to develop gross motor skills. Introduce a rage of tools (paint brushes, paint pens, scissors, pencils) and model how they are to be used. Provide jigsaws and different size objects for moving and sorting. Springfield Nursery

Reading: Read stories that explore family life and help children to settle into nursery routine. Model book skills and care for books. Introduce print in the environment / labels in the nursery. Use children's name badges/ name cards/ self registration to support name recognition. Writing: Provide children with the opportunities to ascribe meaning to their marks. Introduce songs/ rhymes lined to their families and friends and bodies. Encourage children to make marks. Numbers: Introduce numerals 0-5. Introduce number rhymes to encourage the use of number names. Begin to compare quantise. Understand the concept of one more. Matching numbers. Shape, space and measure: Begin to name 2D shapes. Introduce the language of size. e.g.: big, small, bigger, smaller, long, short. Sorting- shape, size and colour. Getting to know you: Curriculum coverage Autumn 1 Springfield Nursery

Understating the world- people,communities and the world: Talk about self and family. Make use of small world play and home corner to initiate discussions. Celebrate festivals; Diwali, Eid. Use home visits photos to encourage conversation. Understanding the world- Technology: Introduce the use of computers, ipad, camera, remote controlled toys and every day technology i.e. iron, kettle, microwave, washing machine, cooker in the kitchen (home corner). Expressive arts and design: Creating self portraits- link to bodies. Introduce recourses-making choices about the materials and tools they need. Painting hand prints, foot prints Painting portraits of their families. Expressive arts and design- Dance and Music: Explore musical instruments. Nursery Rhymes- using props and puppets to support understanding and engagement. Encourage movement and dance. Listen to music daily. Parental involvement: Home visits. Parents are encouraged to spend 15 minutes for story time. EYFS meetings for parents. Reading meetings. Parents meetings.
