1 Welcome Swallows Class
AUTUMN 1 PROJECT ‘Marvellous Me!’ Project Rationale This project aims to welcome the new Swallows to Copythorne CofE Infant School and to help them to settle and make new friends. Following home visits we asked the children and their families to create a special box of things that are important to them that they can share with their friends. During this half term we will help the children to settle by playing games, reading stories, singing songs and by using discovery time to allow the children to explore their indoor and outdoor classroom environments. The children will become familiar with the routines of school and learn how to work independently in their new environment. As the season changes from Summer to Autumn we will learn about Harvest and how this is celebrated in the Christian church. We will also look carefully at all the changes we see happening around us that tell us that Autumn has arrived. Personal, Social and Emotional Development Share their special boxes with the adults and their peers talking about what is inside and why it is special for them. Familiarise themselves with school routines and the class environment. Communication and Language Share their thoughts and ideas whilst engaged in small group work and during discovery time. Be encouraged to listen and take account of others ideas during group times and whilst engaged in their play. Physical Development Have opportunities to travel under, over and through, balancing and climbing on a variety of equipment. Use a variety of mark-making and writing resources to develop their gross and fine motor control Literacy Be introduced to phonic sounds and through a range of activities helped to link these to letter shapes. Be given many opportunities to write and mark-make beginning to develop the skills needed to form letter shapes. Experience a wide range of literature including stories, poetry and rhymes Maths Through games and songs develop their confidence using numbers to 10; counting, ordering, naming and problem solving. Compare size, weight and quantities using practical resources and real life situations. Explore the mathematical names and properties of 2d shapes. Understanding of the world Have opportunities to observe the changing seasons identifying patterns of growth, decay and changes over time. Learn about Harvest and how some people celebrate this. Take pictures using i pads of what they observe outside during Explorer sessions. Expressive Art and Design Work both inside and out using a variety of media and materials to create pictures, models, songs and dances Play alongside others and working co-operatively to express and respond to feelings, ideas and experiences using a range of materials.
