4 Child Initiated learning.
The environment is organised to enable children to develop independence and initiate their own learning. Some of our topics are led by the children’s interests.

5 The Areas of Learning are:
Prime Areas Personal, Social and Emotional Development Communication and Language Physical Development Specific Literacy Mathematics Understanding the world Expressive Arts and Design

6 Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
Can play in a group, extending and elaborating play ideas Can select and use resources with help Is confident to ask an adult for help Is aware of own feelings and knows that some action and words can hurt others feelings Can take turns and share fairly with adult support Can usually adapt behaviour to different events, social situations and changes in routine

7 Communication and Language.
Learn to be good communicators. Learn to listen to stories with increasing attention and recall Learn to follow directions Use more complex sentences Question why things happen Build up vocabulary that reflects their breadth of experiences

8 Physical Development Move freely with pleasure and confidence in a rage of ways Use one- handed tools and equipment Hold a pencil between thumb and two finger Copy letters from their name Can tell an adult when their they are hungry or tired Understand the effect of activity on their body Can use the toilet independently most of the time Can dress with a bit of help

9 Literacy Enjoys rhyming and rhythmic activities
Listens and joins in with stories Shows an interest in books Recognises a few familiar words. Sometimes gives meanings to marks as they draw and paint Ascribes meaning to marks that they see in different places

10 Mathematics Recite numbers in order to 10
Match numerals and quantities correctly Represent numbers with fingers or marks on paper Separate a group of three or four objects in different ways, beginning to recognise the total is still the same Show an interest in shapes and space in play Use number names in play Show an awareness of shapes in their environment Use positional language Talk about the shapes of everyday objects e.g. “round” and “tall”

11 Understanding the World
Show an interest in the lives of people who are familiar to them Recognise and describe special times in their lives Comment and ask questions about the natural world Show a care for living things Know how to operate simple equipment Show an interest in technical toys or real objects Know that information can be retrieved from computers

13 Learning Journeys and WOW stickers
We are constantly observing your children as they learn through play based activities. Annotated photos are kept in their learning journals. These are sent home to share with you every half term. We value parents/you as partners and encourage you to record any significant learning observations on a sticker or a photo and to record family experiences and put them in their learning journals. WOW stickers – these will be placed in your child’s Learning Journey.

15 Clothing All clothing should be named and coats need
All the children look very smart in their school uniform In order to encourage your child’s independent skills, trousers with elasticated waists and shoes with Velcro fastenings are recommended. Outside provision is offered every day, so please make sure your child has outer clothing appropriate for the weather, ie Wellington boots, rain coats. All clothing should be named and coats need a loop so they can be hung on a peg.
