Types of Goal Process - goal focuses on what to do in order to achieve outcome or performance goals Outcome - goal focuses on the result compared with others (eg placement, ranking) Performance - goal focuses on the quality of the performance or an aspect of performance Planning and Periodisation Slide 9

Planning Terminology Planning and Periodisation Slide 10 Periodisation Phases – four phases in sequence: -Preparation -Specific preparation, pre-comp -Competition -Recovery/rest Single/double/triple periodisation Testing Volume Intensity

Training Phases Planning and Periodisation Slide 11 Macrocycle -includes all four phases – 1–4 macrocycles in a year, depending on the sport Mesocycle -one period of time within either a training, pre-comp, competition or recovery phase within a macrocycle Microcycle -usually a 2-7-day period within a mesocycle

The Session Plan: Planning and Periodisation Slide 12 is the most detailed part of planning – of the training content for one session is itself comprised of several training units. Several session plans meet the goals for the microcycle and, therefore, for the mesocycle and then the macrocyle.
