7 © Folens 2009 FOR EDEXCEL 1.1.4 Physical activity as part of your healthy, active lifestyle As a performer, knowing what you have to do at each stage can give you an element of control and can help to reduce the possibility of boredom with a training routine. Goals can help a performer work hard and keep focused on a task, giving them a better chance to improve their fitness and skills. Goal setting 6

They can also work as a signpost, indicating the performer is on target for success. Goal setting 8

Win that event. Then be selected for the county team. Then be selected to represent the county in a competition. Goal setting 9

12 © Folens 2009 FOR EDEXCEL 1.1.4 Physical activity as part of your healthy, active lifestyle There are two types of sporting goals: 1.Outcome Goals, which are linked to results of performance in competition. 2.Performance Goals, which are concerned with previous performances, such as being good enough to run for the country or to be selected for the Olympics.
