Abbasid caliph Al- Mamun ( CE) established the House of Wisdom, a library and translation academy at Baghdad. Source: Grolier Multimedia Ancient Libraries: 825 CECE

The House of Wisdom was open to Muslim scholars from all over the world. It was created to translate the works of Greek science into Arabic and integrate this wisdom into Islamic philosophy and science.
