Wisconsin Covenant 2011/12 School Year The student confirmation process

The Wisconsin Covenant: The Goal Encourage students to aspire to and prepare for higher education.

Wisconsin Covenant Scholars Grant Based on student’s Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) as determined by the FAFSA (Financial Aid Form). Students receive 8 semesters of grants Two part grant distribution system Set amount in first two years (4 semesters) Formula driven amount in second two years (4 semesters)

Confirmation Process Students must verify they met the pledge requirements to be recognized as a Wisconsin Covenant Scholar and to receive the Wisconsin Covenant Scholars Grant

Overview of Senior Timeline December 2011: Confirmation form mailed home January 1, 2012: Confirmation process begins April 1, 2012: Confirmation deadline

What needs to be verified: I will graduate from a Wisconsin high school. I maintained at least a B average while in high school. The student has a career cumulative GPA of 2.85 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher. The student earned a GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher for at least 5 semesters and never earned less than a 2.0 in any semester. The student earned a GPA of 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale) during senior year and has shown consistent improvement since the beginning of high school.

What needs to be verified: I took classes in high school that prepared me for entrance into higher education and met or exceeded college entrance requirements. The student successfully meets this standard if their course load meets the requirements for the college(s) they apply to. I demonstrated good citizenship and engaged in activities that supported my community. The student was involved in extra curricular activities that contain an element of community service and can document 30 service hours. The student designed his/her own service learning experience and shared results and reflections with teachers and peers.

What needs to be verified: The student has been admitted to a University of Wisconsin system institution, a Wisconsin Technical College, and/or a Wisconsin private college or university. Students must confirm they have looked at the admission requirements for the schools to which they have applied The student will apply for state and federal financial aid in a timely manner. Students must have the FAFSA completed by April 1, 2012

Additional records to include: If a student was suspended (in or out of school): Two letters of recommendation by members of their community or school.

A complete confirmation checklist: 1. A confirmation form, signed by: Student Parent Primary School Contact - counselor 2. A record of service form 3. Student and/or family mails into Wisconsin Covenant Office 4. Two letters of recommendation, if necessary

Role of the Primary Contact Verify that the student’s GPA meets requirements Verify that each part of the confirmation packet is present and ready to be mailed Sign the confirmation form By April 5, provide the Wisconsin Covenant Office with a list of which students have been confirmed/did not confirm By July 1, provide the Wisconsin Covenant Office with a list of students who were listed as confirmed, but whose statuses changed after April 1 due to not graduating or a decline in GPA

Important dates to remember November/December:Lists of Wisconsin Covenant students will be provided to Primary Contacts December 1:Confirmation form will become available online and will be mailed to seniors January 1: Confirmation process begins April 1:Confirmation/FAFSA deadline April 5:Deadline for Primary Contacts to send list of confirmed/not confirmed Wisconsin Covenant students July 1:Deadline for Primary Contacts to send list of students that were confirmed, but did not graduate
