3.  Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program Provides scholarships based on high school academic achievement and is Florida’s largest merit-based scholarship program. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) Initial Student Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) during their senior year of high school (after December 1st and prior to graduation). Additionally, eligible students must submit a completed (error free) Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to their first disbursement each academic year.

4. You should apply for a Bright Futures Scholarship even if you are considering not going to college, are planning to go out of state, are taking a few years off, or are enlisting in the military. Eligible students have up to two years from high school graduation to begin using the scholarship.

5.  Florida Academic Scholars Award  GPA Requirement – at least a 3.5 weighted (16 core only)  Community Service – at least a 100 hours  Test Scores – 1280 SAT or 28 ACT  Florida Medallion Scholars Award  GPA Requirement – at least a 3.0 weighted (16 core only)  Community Service – at least a 75 hours  Test Scores – 1020 SAT or 22 ACT  Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award  GPA Requirement – at least a 3.0 weighted  Community Service – at least a 30 hours  Test Scores – SAT, ACT, or PERT The Florida Legislature is authorized to change eligibility and funding.

7.  José Martí Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund Provides scholarship assistance to Hispanic- American students who meet scholastic requirements and demonstrate financial need. Applicants for undergraduate study must apply during their senior year of high school. To be considered, high school seniors must submit a completed (error free) FFAA and provide supporting documentation by April 1st. Each student must also submit a completed (error free) FAFSA in time to be processed by the U.S. Department of Education by the May 15th deadline.

8.  Rosewood Family Scholarship Fund Provides scholarship assistance to a maximum of 25 direct descendants of Rosewood families affected by the incidents of January 1923 to attend full-time at eligible state universities, Florida Colleges (public community colleges), or public postsecondary vocational technical schools. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) FFAA by April 1st and submit a completed (error free) FAFSA in time to be processed by the U.S. Department of Education, by the May 15th deadline.

9.  Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans Provides scholarship assistance for dependent children and spouses of Florida veterans or service members who: died as a result of service-connected injuries, diseases, or disabilities sustained while on active duty, or have been verified by the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs as having service-connected 100% total and permanent disabilities, and dependent children whose parent is classified as a prisoner of war or missing in action by the Armed Forces of the U.S. or in the capacity of civilian personnel captured while serving with the consent or authorization of the U.S. Government during wartime service are also eligible. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) FFAA by April 1st. The Florida Department of Veterans Affairs will certify a veteran’s eligibility.

10.  Mary McLeod Bethune Scholarship Program Provides scholarship assistance to undergraduate students who meet academic requirements, demonstrate financial need, and attend Bethune-Cookman University, Edward Waters College, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, or Florida Memorial University. For participation and application deadline information, students should check with the postsecondary institutions they plan to attend.

11.  Minority Teacher Education Scholarship Program/Florida Fund for Minority Teachers Provides scholarship funding for African-American, Hispanic-American, Asian-American, and Native- American students who indicate the potential to become good teachers. Eligible initial students must have met United States citizenship and Florida residency requirements, have earned 60 credit hours or an Associate of Arts degree, have not exceeded 18 hours of upper division educational courses, be juniors, not have received a baccalaureate degree in education, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, and be newly admitted into a teacher education program at any of the program’s participating postsecondary institutions. To be considered, students must apply via the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers website at www.ffmt.orgwww.ffmt.org

12.  Florida Student Assistance Grant Program Florida’s largest need-based grant program provides assistance to degree-seeking, resident, undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need and are enrolled in eligible public or private postsecondary institutions. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) FAFSA by the deadline specified by the participating postsecondary institutions. 13.  Florida Public Postsecondary Career Education Student Assistance Grant Program Provides assistance to eligible Florida residents who demonstrate financial need and enroll in certificate programs of 450 or more clock hours or 15 semester hours at participating Florida Colleges (public community colleges) or career centers operated by district school boards. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) FAFSA by the deadline specified by the participating postsecondary institutions. 14.  William L. Boyd IV, Florida Resident Access Grant Provides tuition assistance to full-time Florida undergraduate students who attend eligible private, non-profit Florida colleges or universities. Eligible students must submit a completed (error free) FAFSA prior to their first disbursement each academic year. 15.  Access to Better Learning and Education Grant Program Provides tuition assistance to full-time Florida undergraduate students enrolled in degree programs at eligible private Florida colleges or universities. Eligible students must submit a completed (error free) FAFSA prior to their first disbursement each academic year. For participation and application deadline information, students should check with the postsecondary institutions they plan to attend.

16.  Florida Work Experience Program Provides eligible Florida resident, undergraduate students the opportunity to secure work experiences that complement and reinforce their educational programs and career goals. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) FAFSA by the deadline specified by the participating college, university, Florida College (public community college), career center operated by a district school board, or educator preparation institute. For information on participating employers and institutional application deadlines, students should check with the postsecondary institutions they plan to attend.

17.  First Generation Matching Grant Program Provides grant funding to Florida resident, undergraduate students enrolled at state universities or Florida Colleges (public community colleges), who demonstrate financial need, and whose parents have not earned baccalaureate degrees. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) FAFSA by the deadline specified by the participating postsecondary institutions. For participation and application deadline information, students should check with the postsecondary institutions they plan to attend.

18.  The FAFSA may be filed as early as January for the following academic year. A student should: Have all necessary documentation at hand, such as tax returns. Allow time to complete the application correctly. If the FAFSA is incomplete, it will not be accepted as submitted. A student is responsible for verifying the error free submission. If filing online, remember to electronically sign or send in the signature page! The application will not be considered submitted until the United States Department of Education receives a student’s signature, as well as a parent signature if required. The FAFSA must be processed error free by May 15 for the Rosewood Family Scholarship Program and the José Martí Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund.

19.  Florida Virtual Campus Public high school students should visit the Florida Virtual Campus website to review their academic progress toward meeting Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program eligibility requirements and State University System course requirements for college admission. Evaluations will be based on current program requirements and the most recent transcript received from a student’s school district. Public high school students in grades 9-12 may access their records at the Florida Virtual Campus website by creating their own login ID and password. www.flvc.org
