‘CANDO’ Meeting Come and find out Summer 2015, Reception (Fir and Elder)

Staff members in the team Fir Elder

What children will be learning… This term out topic is still plants and flowers, leading into sand and water just before Summer Term 2.

How the children will be learning... We will be building on what the children have learnt earlier in the year. We will continue to have a strong emphasis on… Physical development Communication and language Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Main focus in Literacy Segmenting and blending words Demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read. Write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Numeracy Add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. Solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing. Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems.

Main focus in other areas Knowledge and Understanding Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things. They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things occur, and talk about changes. Expressive Arts and design They safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role play and stories.

Main focus in PE- reception Summer Term 1 Our PE day is Thursday and our sessions will take place outside. PE Kit Children will need their house coloured t shirt, black bottoms and trainers/ plimsolls with them for ALL sessions!

How you can help your child… Encourage your child to be independent (getting changed and eating). Let your child see you read and write at home, practice writing sentences Share their book with them, look out for high frequency words and talk about the story and characters. When you’re out and about look at letters and numbers and talk about interesting things you see and hear. BG Election: 4 candidates nominated in Reception, talked about what changes/ideas they would like to see at BG. Talk to your child about the elections.

We need your help with… Book Browse- please continue to read with your child daily and get their reading record signed. Spend time asking comprehension questions about the book. Banded home reading books – please make sure they are kept in the plastic wallet and changed on appropriate days. Speaking- talk to your child about their day at school or something that interests them to build their speaking skills. If we change your child please return the clean clothes. If you have any spare clothes we would be grateful to receive them. To help your child learn… Ensuring your child goes to sleep at a reasonably early hour. Spend time reading with them.

Thank you! Please stay and look at your child’s WOW books together and write an observation from home.
