South African Facts Apartheid separated blacks to a second-class citizenship Ronald Reagan proposed an executive order to end to the apartheid. Not until early 1990’s, F. W. de Klerk began negotiating with Nelson Mandela. Klerk later gave a speech legalizing over 60 opposition groups such as the African National Congress.

End of Apartheid Ending apartheid was a good change Apartheid- a government-forced segregation. Dictionary Definition: A rigid policy of separation of the non-white population.

South Africa Gained the non-white population many freedoms. No restrictions on: Marriages Sexual Relations Suffrage became 18 years of age

Brought a Parliamentary Democracy to South Africa. “Your freedom and mine cannot be separated.” Nelson Mandela said this after serving his prison sentence.

South Africa Today South Africa recently hosted the 2010 Fifa World Cup. Siphiwe Tshabalala made history by scoring the first goal for South Africa in the World Cup. South Africa also had a movie made about their national rugby team in which Nelson Mandela participated in making it.
