SAAC: Not a one-stop shop! Meet With Your Advisor Early in the semester to discuss your progress and explore majors/careers For registration planning More often as needed

Preparing for your advising appointment Review your SAAC Handbook Print and review your Degree Progress Report: –Verify what courses you have taken –Note what requirements you need to complete Review the University Catalog: –GDRs for degree types (BA, BS, or BM/BFA) –Prospective major(s), minor(s) –Course descriptions of courses you’re interested in; Do the courses have prerequisites? Have you met them? Are they offered this semester? –Possible elective courses (study skills, music, etc.) Review the University Timetable to see what courses are offered next semester: –Note freshmen-level course listing handout Making Choices: Some suggestions: talk to peers and professors, Text Rental, course descriptions, visit class, syllabi...

Use the Advising Worksheet to list your choices. Include enough possibilities for first choices and alternates. Bring this worksheet, your DPR, advising handbook, and yellow advising folder with you to your advising appointment.

Keep in mind… 1.Remember the “golden bullet” classes: MNS, NW, & EL 2.Placement tests a. English: 439 CCC; b. Math: For future test dates, go to the Math department’s website: c. Foreign Language: 1 hour exam Nov. 7– 11, CCC 305 Arrive between 8 am-2 pm Mon.-Fri. 3.Consider your study load 4.Refer to the “Preparing for Your Advising Appointment” on page 6 of your Student Academic Advising Center Handbook

Meeting with your advisor in the SAAC Office

You and your advisor will review:  DPR and GDRs  potential majors/minors  your course selections Your advisor will authorize you to register.

Preparing for online registration Point, Using resources in your my Point, create potential class schedules for the courses listed on your SAAC Advising Record.

Registering for classes Point Your web registration appointment time will be posted online in the Academics tab of your my Point webpage around Oct. 10 th. Students will register between November 14 th and December 2 nd. Remember to pay your registration deposit. Also check for any outstanding balances and other registration holds. Register online at your given appointment time. Once completed, print a copy of your schedule and DPR for your records to verify you registered for what you thought you did and to see if courses fell in the categories you expected them to. Refer to page 6 of the SAAC Handbook.

Scheduling Your 1 Hour Appointment Do you know who your advisor is? If not, see us after the presentation. Put your name, ID#, and phone number on the white label Remember to write your appointment time on your Advising Worksheet. Don’t sign up for an appointment that ends when your class begins (e.g. 10:00 appointment  11:00 class). Call ahead if it’s not possible for you to keep your appointment.
