Egyptian Gods The Egyptians worshiped more than 1,000 different gods and goddesses The gods were very important to the Egyptians The gods often took the shape of animals and birds that the Egyptians saw around them

Gods The most important god of all was Amun Ra, the sun god People believed that each night he was swallowed up by the sky goddness Nut. The god looked like a man with a hawk head and headdress with a sun disk

Osiris-Lord of the Underworld Egyptians believed that when people died they travelled to a kingdom below earth, here Osiris and his wife Isis would protect the pharaoh This god was a mummified man wearing a white cone- like headdress with feathers

Thoth-God of writing Egyptians often believed that hieroglyphic writing came from Thoth This god often had the head of an ibis holding a writing palette, sometimes he was shown as a baboon
