Attendance Policy “Any students having more than (6) excused, approved, or unexcused absences in a semester per high school course will receive no credit for the class unless a waiver is granted by the Attendance Committee.” Middle schools will, after the seventh absence, convene a waiver hearing to either grant, hold or deny credit.

Physical Science Must participate in Social Studies or Science Fair Successful completion = Advanced Science Courses in High School Focus of this course is an in depth study into physics, formulas and chemistry: - Periodic Table - Chemical Equations - Formulas

Spanish I •Content includes Language: grammar, vocabulary, and conversational phrases. Culture: history, traditions, geography, etc. • Students can take Spanish II or Honors Spanish II in 9th Grade. •Online textbook

French I •Content includes Language: grammar, vocabulary, and conversational phrases. Culture: history, traditions, geography, etc. • Students can take French II or Honors French II in 9th Grade.

Study is the key Studying and practicing are key to learning a world language. Students should check the Aspen page every evening to see what tasks they need to complete.

Introduction to Business & Technology IBT is the foundational (Level I) course for the Business & Technology Career Pathway. Level II course is Business & Technology Level III course is Business Communications. Students who complete 3 courses in a pathway are recognized for Pathway Completion upon graduation. Completion of each course prepares students to test to earn Microsoft Certifications.

Introduction to Business & Technology Standards include: - employability skills - management - marketing - entrepreneurship - finance - risk management - business law - communications skills - applying technology skills - a mastery of Microsoft Word CTAE courses prepare students to be College and Career READY

Beginning Band 1 Beginning Band 1 has greater daily rigor and requires higher level fine motor skills. Students will perform in front of the class on a more frequent basis. There will also be extra at home practice time required. By the end of the course students will have completed the following: * Successfully perform additional major scales with accuracy and clarity * Successfully perform a chromatic scale with high school level ranges * Successfully display extended range on his/her instrument * Successfully perform a solo of high school difficulty in front of the class * Attend extra marching and maneuvering sessions * Demonstrate correct posture and marching technique while playing

Beginning Chorus I Beginning Chorus I requires higher student expectations than the MS Advanced Chorus class. Including a greater focus on vocal music, sight reading and advanced music theory. Students are required to audition for the GMEA Middle School All State Chorus! By the end of the course students will know and/or perform the following: Major, minor and chromatic scales a cappella Identify all 15 key signatures Perform an art song for their assigned voice part Recognize/identify major and minor mode

“THE SCOOP” HS courses have more rigor! MUST have strong work ethic! May require 2 days work in 1 day! Need “whatever-it-takes” mindset! Must balance with other courses! No excuses…balance with outside activities! Expect homework nightly! High behavioral expectations!

DECISIONS? 8th Grade courses DO NOT count toward HOPE GPA. 8th Grade courses DO count towards overall high school GPA and class rank. May not opt in or out of credit at end of course and may not retake in HS once credit is earned. Transcripts will be established upon entry into 9th grade Parent letter due by August 11, 2015. Decision Day - October 20, 2015 (no dropping HS after this date). Parents of students below 85% will be contacted regarding course placement. Colleges look at the overall high school GPA – core GPA is math, science, social studies, foreign language, English lit GA College 411 and look in the Move On When Ready
