Fold into fourths and crease.

Unfold.

Cut flaps on folds by cutting the first layer only.  

Biomolecule: CARBOHYDRATES Building block: monosaccharides (simple sugars) Ex. Glucose

Polymer: Disaccharide: ex)fructose + glucose = sucrose H2OH2O GF

Characteristics: Used for energy and structure. Can form long chains called polysaccharides. Ex. IN PLANTS Cellulose makes cell walls, Starch stores food. Ex. IN ANIMALS Glycogen is stored in the liver

Polymer: Triglyceride GycerolGycerol Fatty acid + 3 H 2 O

Characteristics: Fats are used for storage of energy. Fats can be: Saturated: No double bonds in fatty acid chain. Found in animals, solids at room temperature EX) Lard, Butter Unsaturated: Some double bonds in fatty acid chain. Found in plants, liquids at room temperature. EX) Corn oil

Examples: Fats, Oils, and Waxes Phospholipids: in cell membrane Cholesterol: in animals Find a picture of Something containing lipids and place it here. On back

Polymer: Polypeptide (small piece of protein) Amino Acid + 2 H 2 O

Characteristics: Proteins are used to build structures for the body, they also can be enzymes. The bonds between amino acids are called peptide bonds.

Examples: Muscles, hair, enzymes, antibodies. Find a picture of Something containing protein and place it here. On back
