Purpose Provide information about our school’s Title I program for parents of students participating in the program.

Title I Program What is “Title I”?  Funding provided under No Child Left Behind  Funds to provide programs to help children who are struggling in reading and math.  Extra help (in addition to what they learn during reading time in the classroom) Types of Programs:  Schoolwide – all students  Targeted – students identified for the program based on performance on assessments

Curriculum Reading Curriculum used in Hopewell:  Wonders, McGraw Hill 2014 (first year of new series)  Grades K – 5 Our Goal: help the children achieve the State Standards (Common Core) 

Title I Assessments Assessments are used to help teachers determine if a student is understanding the content presented in the classroom. We use the following assessments for all of our students:  Data Collection (DIBELS, PSSA, Grades, etc)  Placement & Diagnostic Assessments  Teacher referral & observation

Proficiency Levels If a child does not reach a certain proficiency level when they take an assessment, we consider them for additional help from our Title I program. The proficiency levels for our assessments are:  DIBELS Next – benchmarks for subtests  PSSA – Basic/Below Basic  Reading Grades – Below C  Placement & Diagnostic Assessments – benchmarks and/or expected skills (Phonics surveys)

PSSA Proficiency Levels Your child will be taking the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) in grades 3-8.  Four Proficiency Levels for the PSSA Advanced Proficient Basic Below Basic  Our goal (and the State’s goal) is for your student to reach the “Proficient” level on the PSSA. Title I can help!

Assessment Results You will be notified of your child’s assessment results. Timeline:  PSSA: Fall after the test is taken  Others: As given Title I Progress Reports (2x/year)  Individual Reading Inventories  Dibels Progress monitoring
