1 Welcome to the Annual Meeting of Title I Parents

2 Why are we here? The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires that each Title I School hold an Annual Meeting of Title I parents for the purpose of informing parents about what Title One is and how we will be servicing the students throughout the year. Morey Montessori is a Targeted Assistance Title One School

3 What does it mean to be a Title I School? Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs. These dollars are used for… –Identifying students experiencing academic difficulties and providing timely assistance to help these student’s meet the State’s challenging content standards. –Purchasing supplemental staff/programs/materials/supplies –Conducting parental Involvement meetings/trainings/activities –Recruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Qualified Teachers Being a Title I school also means parental involvement

4 What is Title One? Title I is a federally funded program designed to help students that are “failing or who are most at risk of failing” meet high academic standards and the districts core academic curriculum standards.

5 What is a SIP? The SIP is your school’s Continuous Improvement Plan and includes: –A Needs Assessment and Summary of Data –Goals and Strategies to Address Academic Needs of Students –Professional Development Needs –Coordination of Resources/Comprehensive Budget –The School’s Parental Involvement Plan You, as Title I parents, have the right to be involved in the development of this plan. If you would like to see a copy of the SIP please contact Mr. Johnson.

6 What’s included in the school’s Parental Involvement Plan? This plan addresses how the school will implement the parental involvement requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Components include… –How parents can be involved in decision-making and activities –How parental involvement funds are being used –How information and training will be provided to parents –How the school will build capacity in parents and staff for strong parental involvement You, as Title I parents, have the right to be involved in the development of your school’s Parental Involvement Plan.

7 What is the School-Parent Compact? The compact is a commitment from the school, the parent, and the student to share in the responsibility for improved academic achievement You, as Title I Parents, have the right to be involved in the development of the School- Parent Compact.

8 How do I request the qualifications of my child’s teachers? You, as Title I Parents, have the right to request the qualifications of your child’s teachers How you are notified of this right and the process for making such request. ALL Teachers at Morey Montessori are highly qualified Notification would be mailed to parents regarding teachers not meeting NCLB’s requirements for Highly Qualified.

9 Schoolwide Assessments: NWEA –Math and Reading –3 times per year –Kindergarter- 8 th grade DIBELS –Math and Reading –Benchmark assessments are 3 times per year –Progress monitoring M-Step –3 rd -8 th grade

10 What determines eligibility? šStudents must meet at least 2 of the following criteria on the Title I Identification Form: šVictim of child abuse or neglect šBelow grade level in English/language arts, communication skills, or mathematics skills šEligible for free or reduced lunch prices šAtypical behavior or attendance patterns šFamily history of school failure, incarceration or substance abuse OR..

11 What determines eligibility? š Students whose score on their most recent NWEA reading, mathematics, or science test was: šLess than proficient in Reading, Mathematics, Science OR… šStudents in grades K-3 who are at risk of not meeting the district's core academic curricular objectives in English/language arts, communication skills, or mathematics.

12 Other eligibility criteria: „ Any student reading below benchmark on NWEA „Any student performing below benchmark in Math on NWEA „Any student reading below grade level on DIBELS in either Oral Reading or Retell Fluency. „Any student performing at grade C or below on local or teacher assessment. (This would need to be consistent at each grade level). „Teacher recommendation

13 Kindergarten- 2nd Grade Eligibility for Services Teacher Judgment/ Input Developmentally appropriate measures DIBELS, NWEA, and Sight Word Assessments Kindergarten students will be looked at in December

14 Title I 2015-2016 WIN Time –30 minutes in each classroom –Monday- Thursday every week Pull Out –Limited this year –Teacher/Parent request Parent Involvement –How would you like to be involved in the Title I program?
