Description of Environmental Indicators (Ambient Air Quality in Urban Areas ) Measurement: Microgram (mcg) in cubic meter (m 3 ) of air Issue: Increased concentrations of air pollutant substances in ambient air can have a range of impacts on human health, ecosystems, and vegetation. Particulate matter (PM10), smaller than 10 (mcg) in diameter, is recognized internationally as a priority pollutant since long-term exposure or short-term inhalation of high concentrations can reduce lung capacity and increase asthmatic and respiratory symptoms.
