6. Statistical System of Iran
Background : Took shape in 1936, developed in 1975 and last updated and approved in 2000
High Council of Statistics : Headed by the Vice President on Planning and Strategic Supervision, comprising of a number of related deputy ministers as members. This Council has an expert consultant arm known as 'Specialized Commission‘
Statistical Center of Iran : Established in 1965 according to the Law of Establishment of the SCI, affiliated to the deputy of Planning and Strategic Supervision of the Presidential Office, Secretariat of High Council of Statistics
Sectoral Statistics Committees : 32 committees for implementation of National Plan of statistics of the country

7. Main duties of the SCI
Implementation of demographic, economic, and social censuses and sample surveys and dissemination of results;
Provision of statistical data to meet national development planning requirements;
Provision of technical advice to statistical departments of ministries, government agencies and/or government affiliated bodies, state-owned companies, and – whenever possible – to private sector agencies;
Preparation and compilation of standards, methods, and regulations for statistical data production and dissemination;
Implementation of scientific studies and researches on official statistics and related issues for quality improvement of the SCI's performance; and
Compilation of required statistical data obtained from public and private sectors and centralized documentation of administrative records.

General Census of Establishments in 2002 (as a base for conducting statistical surveys for all economic activities, the framework of establishments from this census is updated according to registered data form ministries and government bodies)
General Census of Agriculture in 2003 (as a base for statistical surveys in agriculture sector)
General Census of Population and Housing in 2006 (as a base for household-based statistical surveys)

12. Data collection system for manufacturing statistics
Census of manufacturing establishments, covering large and small industries (last survey in 2003 and the next survey is organized for 2008)
Annual census of large manufacturing establishments (covering large industries with 10 and more workers, population size units in 2005)
Survey on household manufacturing activities ( last survey in 1996 and the next survey will be carried out in 2008)
Household expenditure and income survey (the results are implemented in regional and national accounts estimations)

Implementation of the 1993 SNA In compilation of national
accounts was put in the SCI working program since 1993
by considering definitions, concepts, classifications and
measurement methods and also with special regard to
changes of the new revision :
Determination of consumption expenditure of household and government according to final consumption expenditure, actual individual consumption and actual collective consumption
Compilation of a separate account for cultivated assets with respect to gross fixed capital formation, tangible and intangible fixed assets sc

14. Implementation of the SNA 1993 (cont.)
Considering taxes on production and imports and taxes on income, wealth,etc. in the compilation of accounts
Measurement of imputed service charge of financial intermediaries with respect to the definition of financial intermediary service charge indirectly measured (FISIM)
Compilation of goods and services accounts, production accounts and generation of income accounts and aggregate supply and demand
Implementation of the SNA 1993 also was realized in compilation of regional accounts by the SCI since 1997 (compilation of GDP for 30 provinces of the country with detailed information of value added in 72 economic activities on a yearly bases)
