Presentation transcript:

 A movie poster, is a poster used to advertise a movie. There may be several versions for one movie, with variations in size, content and country of production of the poster. It usually contains an image with text. The text usually contains the film title in large lettering and often the names of the main actors. It may also include a slogan, the name of the director, names of characters, the release date, etc.

Written by: Katherine Fugate Directed by: Gary Marshall Valentine’s Day the movie came out in February of It follows multiple intertwining couples and singles in L.A., through their personal trials and tribulations on the most romantic day of the year, Valentine’s Day. A movie filled of break-ups and make-ups based on the pressures and expectations of the special day.

 What is the first thing you notice when you look at this poster?  What sticks out the most from the rest of the poster?  What do you think about when you hear the term Valentines Day?

 The first thing I see when I look at this poster is all the different celebrities in the heart. This is the first thing that draws my attention because it’s the area with the most detail and the most contrast, which makes you curious.  To me the shape of the heart sticks out the most because of the light pink outline compared to the black background, it makes the shape really stick out.  When I hear the term “Valentine’s Day”, I think of love, romance, flowers, hearts, and pretty much anything happy that has to do with love. Which might be why the creator of the poster has most of the actors smiling in their pictures.

 Who do you think the poster was intended for? -I think the intended audience is everyone who has the opportunity to watch a movie.

Pathos  Valentine’s Day itself appeals to the human emotions, love and happiness.  The main shape of the poster is a heart which we associate with the feeling of love and the smiling characters within the heart conveys happiness to the audience.

 New Line Cinema created this poster for the movie to advertise their movie.  They intended for it to catch the eye of a potential audience and create anticipation for the movie’s release date.

 Colors- › Pink, blue and white are sweet, light colors that fit Valentines Day and contrast nicely on the solid black background.  Balance- - The complexity of the heart and all of the different pictures in it, balance out the fact that nothing else complex is happening on the poster out side of the heart.

 Font › The title at the bottom is slightly larger than the rest of the font bring emphasis more than anything. › The Names of the actors/actresses are actually color coated. Pink names are female characters and blue names are male characters. This is the first time I've ever seen this on a movie poster.
