Sabre Saws/ Jigsaws Hand Power Tools

Objectives Identify the parts and uses of sabre saws/jigsaws and reciprocating saws on a handout in class with 100% accuracy. Describe the similarities and differences of a sabre saw, jigsaw, and reciprocating saw on a handout in class with 90% accuracy. Identify the safety procedures associated with these saws on a test with 100% accuracy. Safely operate a jigsaw in the shop with 75% accuracy.

Reasons to Learn Why do we need to learn how to use a sabre saw/jigsaw? Why do we need to know the parts of a jigsaw? Why is it important to know the differences and similarities between the jigsaw and reciprocating saw? Why is it important to know how to use these saws safely?

Questions to Answer What is a sabre saw/jigsaw and what are their uses? What is a reciprocating saw and what is it used for? What are the differences and similarities between the saws? How do you use them? What are the safety procedures?

What is a sabre saw/jigsaw? Used to cut circles, curves, and holes in different materials. Blades for wood, metal, drywall/plaster, plastic

Parts Power cord strain reliever Handle Brushes Base tilt adjustment Tilting base On-off switch Guide knob Aluminum housing Blade screw Toe Blade

What is a reciprocating saw? Saw that uses a reciprocating motor to move a small blade up and down across the object to be cut Used more for demolition

Parts Blade Blade set screw Motor housing Brushes Trigger lock 6. Switch lock 7. Handle 8. Power cord 9. Air vents 10. Rocker shoe

Safety ALWAYS wear eye protection! The material should be secured with a bench vice or clamp. Do NOT adjust the saw when the motor is running. Needs to be cleaned regularly.

Review Objectives for this lesson were: Identify the parts and uses of sabre saws/jigsaws and reciprocating saws on a handout in class with 100% accuracy. Describe the similarities and differences of a sabre saw, jigsaw, and reciprocating saw on a handout in class with 90% accuracy. Identify the safety procedures associated with these saws on a test with 100% accuracy. Safely operate a jigsaw in the shop with 75% accuracy.

Review What are the saws we have talked about today? What are they used for? Differences and similarities? Safety?
