Reading/Lang. Arts – Mrs. Fulton This week, we will continue to look at text features and how they help us understand what we read, and we will also be starting to look at text structure (how a text is organized). Text Features -- titles, subtitles, pictures, photos, captions, charts, graphs, time lines, maps, words in bold and italics, etc. Text Structure – cause & effect, chronological order, compare & contrast, etc. Here are some questions to ask when you are reading with your child: 1.What can you learn from the pictures in the text? 2.How do the text features help you understand the text better? 3.How is this text organized? Why do you think it is organized this way? 4.What is the author’s point of view (opinion) of the topic they are writing about? How do you know? 5.What is your point of view (opinion) of the topic of the text? In Language Arts, we will continue working on capitalization and punctuation.
