1 TEAM NOTES Media Nights Many of your ask what you can do to help your child be as successful as possible at school. One of the answers to this question is Media Nights! At Media Nights, our school Librarian can work with you and your child to choose the best books for improving your child’s reading. Our Parent- Teacher Liaison is also here to help you check out items from our Resource Room to use with your child at home. In addition, teachers are on hand to assist you with helping your child with his or her homework. Media Nights are held one Thursday each month in the Media Center. The next event is Thurs., Dec. 10. Reading/Lang. Arts – Mrs. Fulton Your child should have checked out a non-fiction book from the library last week. Have them point out the Text Features titles, subtitles, pictures, photos, captions, charts, graphs, time lines, maps, words in bold and italics, etc. Here are some questions to ask when you are reading with your child: 1.What can you learn from the pictures in the text? 2.How do the text features help you understand the text better? 3.How is this text organized? Why do you think it is organized this way? 4.What is the author’s point of view (opinion) of the topic they are writing about? How do you know? 5.What is your point of view (opinion) of the topic of the text? In Language Arts, we will continue working on capitalization and punctuation.
