Reading/Lang. Arts – Mrs. Fulton In Reading this week, we will finish Unit 3 -- character traits, point of view, and their effect on the events and ending of a story. At the end of each of our reading units, students are asked to create a “published product”, where they show what they have learned by applying the skill and explaining their thinking in writing. The published product for Unit 3 will ask them to compare the character traits and events in two passages and explain how they effected the events in the story. Students will have two days to work on this assignment, and will receive a read and a grammar grade. Here are some questions to ask when you are reading with your child: 1.How does the character feel about …? (something that happened in the story) Point of View 2.What in the story shows that this is how they feel? How do you know? What did the character do to show this? 3.What character traits did the main character have? What did the character say or do to show you they were this type of person? 4.How did the character’s traits/actions effect the events and the ending of the story? In Language Arts, we will be finishing up with adjectives and adverbs with a quiz on Tuesday. Your child should understand that an adjective describes a noun and an adverb describes a verb. They should also understand that there are comparative (happier) and superlative (happiest) forms of both adjectives and adverbs.
