Reading Guidelines Please help your child choose appropriate books for their reading ability. A good rule of thumb is if they don’t know 3-5 words on a page, then they should try a different book. Students have learned how to pick good books for themselves (a skill we will continue to work on), and should be reading a “Just Right” book at home. The Reading Counts program goals have already been set by the students and approved by me.

Approximately 50 – 60 minutes of written homework will be given each day, Monday through Thursday, and occasionally on Friday. It will normally consist of math, writing, science or social studies, and reading. Other topics will be assigned as they arise subject. Along with written homework, your child is expected to read 20 minutes EVERYDAY of the week! * If your child is spending an unusually large amount of time on homework, please feel free to contact me. Homework

Most subjects will vary, but all test will be mentioned to your children ahead of time. Quizzes will usually be announced ahead of time, but occasionally will be unscheduled. Students must be responsible for writing ALL quiz and test dates into their agendas! Test and Quizzes

Agendas and Friday Folders * All homework assignments will be written in your child’s Agenda that has been provided by the school. Parents/Guardians will be asked to sign the Agenda each night as part of the students’ homework. * Classwork and homework will be returned each Friday in your child’s Purple Communication Folder. A brief progress report will accompany the returned papers. Progress reports must be signed and dated by a parent or guardian and returned on Monday morning.

Report Cards At the end of each grading period, your child’s report card will be filled out, updating you on a “big picture” of your child’s progress. Comments will also be included and the report cards are expected to be signed and returned. Report Cards October 26 January 11 March 23 June 14

Classroom Management STAR CARDS - Positive 1 for completing all homework assignments 1 for a no reteaches from the previous day from the previous day. 1 for a signature in the agenda by a parent or guardian Once students have a number of stars, they then may purchase an item off of the “Positive Consequences” list or save up for the end of the marking period auction!

Classroom Management NOTE: The intermediate teachers re- teach students correct expectation if they are having a problem with specific behaviors. This allows them to hear how to exhibit the behavior properly and practice it before returning to the classroom.

Odds and Ends Bathroom Use – –After Specials –Before Lunch/After Lunch/After SPA –Other times when the whole class is working independently Birthdays –Students are allowed to bring treats in for birthdays but PLEASE let me know ahead of time!

Volunteers * Volunteers are always needed and greatly appreciated. If you would would like to spend some time helping in the classroom, please fill out your name and telephone number on the volunteer sheet. You will be contacted in the very near future.
