Schedule / Routine School runs from 8:05 – 2:25 Napanee Bus: Arrival 8:35 ; Departure 1:50 Ms. Morlog – Literacy & Geography (Term 1), Numeracy, & Phys. Ed Ms. Dee –Literacy & History (Term 2), Science, Health, The Arts Mrs. O’Neill – Music (Day 5) Mr. Charron – French (4, 50 min periods)

Keeping Organized Suggestions for binders  one for each teacher, divided by subject (see examples) Nightly check in time (organize papers, handouts) and review website & homework tracking system ChallengeProgram/apt1.aspx ChallengeProgram/apt1.aspx How to get there: A) A)Link off Odessa Website B) B)Scan QR Code C) C)Google Ms. Morlog/Ms. Dee Teacher Web

Homework Tracking Systems Students will have the ability to select a system that works best for them This can be traditional (agenda) or electronic Students must select a system, and both the student and parents will sign off on the selection Reliance on the website won’t build the learning skills that are important for their futures in school and beyond Self tracking helps to build personal responsibility, time management and organizational skills

Homework Tracking Systems Choices are: - -A traditional agenda - -Calendar built into an electronic device (cell phone; ipod; iPad ect) - -my Homework Students Planner app (iPhone, iPad, Android phone, web, kindle) Other

Keeping Organized & Time Management Keep a home calendar to keep track of homework, assignments, and major term projects Make a nightly time for homework to create a routine Break down assignments and major term projects into manageable chunks (We will do this too! Check in points; rough copy dates ect.)

Homework & Major Projects Daily homework in all subjects Testing “Flipped Classroom Model” in Math Homework is checked daily Assignments/projects that will be assessed for reporting Enrichment Projects (some not all) Challenge For Change - Social Justice & Sustainability Genius Hour FLASF Science Fair Heritage Fair

Assessments In order to keep parents aware of the child’s progress and achievement we require students to get all assessments signed my a parent/guardian Students each have a folder in Ms. Dee’s and Ms. Morlog’s room. Folders will be sent home with assessed work and must be returned with a signature and a spot for comments/questions This will help to avoid any surprises at reporting time!

Assessment & Growth Mindset Over the past year, students and staff across LDSB have been focusing on the concept of Growth Mindset We are teaching and learning about the brain, and the research behind why mindset has a lot to do with a person's success and achievement.

Assessment & Growth Mindset

In particular, we want students see feedback (on assessments) as learning not simply comments that are attached “to a mark” Growth Mindset Video So you and your child might not always see a “final mark” but you will always see: Established learning goals Success Criteria Rubrics Lots of written and oral feedback!

Technology In The Classroom OPS and the intermediate division has adopted “Bring It” – Bring Your Own Device (lap top, iPod, iPhone, iPad, tablet ect.) This is not a requirement, and students will have access to program computers, netbooks, and our growing bank of iPads We may ask for FREE EDUCATIONAL APPS to be downloaded that will be used during instruction QR Code Scanner Socrative Student

Field Trips & Enrichment Opportunities Wesley Acres (Bloomfield) Outdoor Education, Science, Drama and The Arts Challenge Year End Trip (Niagara Falls / Quebec City) Language, History, Geography, Science Skating (Amherstview) Physical Education Science Fair/Historica Fair (Kingston) Science/History Visual Arts Workshops Wolfgang Pierbauer Specialized Physical Education & Dance Workshops Ex. Zumba, Yoga

Field Trips, Enrichment, & Twitter We have a Twitter account! We tweet curriculum activities, homework reminders, organizational tips (ex. instrument, gym clothes, return forms) We also tweet from trips so that parents/guardians can see what we are doing in close to “real time”! It also helps to communicate our ETA! Twitter Account
