Presentation transcript:

Philosophy Paper: Final Polish 1. Go through entire paper solely looking for use of “YOU,” “YOUR,” YOURSELF,” etc. 2. Go through again looking for use of the word “God.” “God” should be capitalized IF it is being used to name a deity. Example: “God gave us free-will.” It should NOT be capitalized if the paper states something like “Humanists do not believe that a god was involved in creation.” While you are looking for “God,” look also for ALL PRONOUNS referring to God. If the writer used “He,” “Him,” etc, those words should also be capitalized.

Body Sections 3. Look at the beginning of each paragraph. Underline the first sentence. Does this sentence state the topic and position of the paragraph? Write “T.S. ok” or “revise T.S.” or “No T.S.” in the margin. 4. Look at the last sentence of each paragraph. Underline the last sentence. Write “Tr.S. ok” or “revise Tr.S.” or “No Tr.S.” in the margin. 5. Note: all contractions must be taken out.

Quotes 6. Look in each section for TWO citations (minimum) from credible sources. Put a star next to each quote. 7. Is the quote properly cited? “quotation marks around the cited text” (author). 8. Does the writer introduce their quote or just insert it randomly? Write “Needs intro” next to quote if they do not have one.

Remember for Final Draft: 1. MUST be submitted to Tii before 7am on due date AND have a hard copy WITH Tii receipt at the beginning of class. Failure to do either will result in a 25% deduction per day. 2. Each section (excluding intro and conclusion) must have a minimum of two direct quotes (not paraphrased). 3. Each section must reference ONE of the following: (1)Existential Philosopher or (2)Eastern Philosopher or (3) Scientist or earlier period philosopher.
