INFORMATION POINT Eat Well Introduction Feel Good Get Active Olympic Values

INTRODUCTION Back to the start This is about getting healthy and active we need to get inspired to start living more healthy lives, and to help us we can use the Olympic values.. Get yourself doing challenges, things you’ve never done before, but most importantly HAVE FUN! Whether you are doing the challenges alone or with friends - just get stuck in!

OLYMPIC VALUES Small steps for life promotes all these values by advertising getting healthy and working together for a healthy future. If we eat well, get active and feel good then we will be well on our way to achieving our goals, and by using the Olympic values in our life we can say healthy and feeling good. RESPECT– fair play; knowing your limits; and taking care of your health and environment. FRIENDSHIP – how, through sport, to understand each other despite any differences EXCELLENCE – how to work to your best ability, on the field of play or in life; taking part; and progressing according to your goals Courage Determination Inspiration Equality

EAT WELL Challenge one! Eat breakfast everyday, it will get your brain running and fuel you all day! Its also very nutritious and gets you feeling awake and active! Challenge two! Have healthy portions of fruit each day! Remember an apple a day keeps the doctor away (or any fruit) remember we are aiming for 5 different fruit a day! Challenge three! Try to drink at least 1 litre of water a day! It will keep you hydrated and help you to be more focused- which is always a good thing! My survey shows that the majority of my audience did eat 5 fruit a day HOWEVER there are still some who don’t.. We need to change that! By doing our challenges it will help you get healthy by taking these small steps > > > > > > > 9 252

GET ACTIVE Challenge one! Spend a few hours a week skipping/running/ or jumping you can do this with friends but keep your heart pumping and have fun! Challenge two! Get yourself a pedometer and see how many steps you walk each day and try and bet them by walking more! Its rewarding and fun! Challenge three! Even if its running around with friends or playing football get active by moving around and having friendly games or competitions! My survey shows that many people take part in sport but that not the only way you can get active! 1

FEEL GOOD Challenge one! Try mediation and yoga just for half an hour each day take yourself into a calm environment and put on soothing music and relax ! I might just get you feeling good! Challenge two! To feel good we need to relax and have fun so take some time out of your busy schedule to think about yourself and have fun! Challenge three! Balancing your work load- this is very important give yourself breaks and don’t but too much strain on yourself otherwise you wont be feeling good and will be de- motivated. The survey suggests each challenge is something worth trying! So get active and feeling good we have to take small steps to make a bigger difference! 75 8
