4 Think about your week. Circle the up triangle if you improved even a little this past week. For example: Did you eat even a little more fruit or vegetables? Did you eat even a little less sweets or chips? Did you drink even a little more water or a little less soda?

ACTION PLAN: I am planning to rollerblade around the park after school before starting homework. I am going to see if Maria will come with me to make it more fun and will try to go at least four days.

8 Calm Place Use your imagination to create a calm place.

9 Breathe, Picture, Focus Breathe in slowly to count of 5 hold for count of 5 exhale to count of 5 Picture yourself in your “ Calm place ” Focus on your strategy for the task at hand

10 1.Use slow breathing to relax. 2.If you begin to get too anxious, repeat slow breathing and picture your “ Calm place ” for a moment to break the stress cycle. Focus on your test taking strategy. 3.Look over the entire test to determine how long it is and where the most points are. Determine a time limit for each section. 4.If you use acronyms, or other memory aids write them down on a scratch piece of paper. (cont.) Seven Test Taking Strategies

11 5. Answer the easy questions first. Often these questions will have clues to harder questions. 6. Go back to the harder questions. Look for clues. Eliminate any obvious wrong answers. If you are still not sure of the correct answer take your best educated guess. 7. Budget your time so that you have a few minutes left at the end to check your answers. After students rate the week for picking out most important things ask a few volunteers: “How many circled the up triangle this week?” “Tell us what you did to improve” “How many agree that this is a good way to improve picking out the most important ideas?”

Did you use the note card strategy this week? After students rate the week for memory ask a few volunteers: “How many circled the up triangle this week?” “Tell us what you did to improve” “How many agree that this is a good way to improve memory?”

For example: Did you use Calm place or Keep Kool Tunes this week? After students rate the week for handling pressure ask a few volunteers: “How many circled the up triangle this week?” “Tell us what you did to improve” “How many agree that this is a good way to improve handling pressure?”

For example: Did you use your calendar this week to keep up with when things are due? After students rate the week for staying organized, ask a few volunteers: “How many circled the up triangle this week?” “Tell us what you did to improve” “How many agree that this is a good way to improve staying organized?”

After students rate the week for study buddy ask a few volunteers: “How many circled the up triangle this week?” “Tell us what you did to improve” “How many agree that this is a good way to improve working with a study buddy?”

Did you do your share of the work? After students rate the week for working with others ask a few volunteers: “How many circled the up triangle this week?” “Tell us what you did to improve” “How many agree that this is a good way to improve working with others?”

21 Think about your week and managing anger. Circle the up triangle if you improved even a little this past week. For example: Did you use any healthy strategies for handling anger this week? After students rate the week for handling anger ask a few volunteers: “How many circled the up triangle this week?” “Tell us what you did to improve” “How many agree that this is a good way to improve handling anger?”
