PGCE Secondary Fees and Loans The PGCE course costs £9k. UK and EU trainees are eligible for a student loan to cover all of the fee. All UK and EU trainees are also eligible for a student loan to cover ‘maintenance’ of up to £5740 You may also be eligible for a maintenance grant of up to £3387 You repay student loans at 9% of the amount you earn over £21,000. E.g. if you earn £25,000 you will repay £30 a month The starting salary for a teacher is currently £22,023
