2. Considering a career in Teaching?
Grades Required:
112 UCAS Tariff points (Grades B, B, & C)
An A-level at minimum Grade C (or equivalent) in a related subject.
GCSE English Language grade C or above.
GCSE Maths grade C or above.
Professional Skills Tests in Literacy and Numeracy.
Academic ability is not the only requirement.
The ability to inspire and motivate, creativity to design activities and materials, organisational and planning skills and the ability to manage classes and deal with challenging behaviour are all essential. 

3. Considering a career in Teaching?
Application Process:
Students should consider the teaching route they would like to pursue (primary, secondary, subject specialism) when selecting their university course. For example, if you would like to become a Maths teacher in a secondary school you should research maths (or related) degree courses. Once you have selected a course you can apply via UCAS.
When choosing the right university for you, you may also want to consider the university’s PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) offer especially if you intend to qualify as a teacher via this route. There are other post graduate routes into teaching such as School Direct (school based training) and Teach First (a two year programme including a PGCE).
Once you have decided on where you would like to apply, you will need to complete your application through UCAS.

4. Considering a career in Teaching?
Choosing your course:
When choosing where to study, there are a number of things you will need to consider before making your final decision. These include: location and UCAS Entry Profiles (which covers facilities, entry routes, fees, financial support and more)  You should also do some research into the course structure. Some university courses follow a more traditional method, whereas some use other more contemporary teaching methods. You will be able to find more information on each course via the university’s website.

5. Considering a career in Teaching?
Work Experience :
Applicants should demonstrate some understanding of what a career in teaching involves and their understanding of, and suitability for, the profession. Applicants may draw on relevant work experience, either paid or voluntary, in education or related areas, to demonstrate this understanding. 
Students should try to gain experience of working in a classroom setting whether in a primary school or secondary school. This will not only be beneficial when applying for a course but will also give you a good understanding of what it is like to work in a classroom environment. Students could also volunteer at sports clubs, brownies, beavers or other organisations to gain experience of working with young people.
Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre can organise school placements at a range of local schools. Students can be given a general placement or a subject specific placement depending on their preference.

6. Career Preparation Programme
As part of the Teaching Preparation programme as a student at Carr Hill Sixth, you will benefit from:
The sixth form will arrange work experience in a suitable setting.
The sixth form will arrange for me to work with existing trainee teacher and they will become your mentor.
The sixth form will arrange regular university visits to take part in workshops and to meet tutors.
The sixth form will help me prepare a portfolio of experience to help you secure a university place.
The sixth form will help you prepare for my Professional Skills Tests.
The sixth form will help you prepare for university Interviews.
