Starting Sawmill: The product will now initialize and you will be asked to enter your login details (the ones you entered earlier ) After entering your login details click Sawmill will now start Performance Analytics Tel: +44 (0) Note** Sawmill uses cookies so make sure they are enabled in your browser or you will not be able to login

Performance Analytics Tel: +44 (0) Your first screen after login: Sawmill requires a Profile to process log data and produce reports. You can create and edit multiple profiles up to the number purchased. The Profile Wizard: To enter the Profile Wizard and start to create your first Profile Click

Performance Analytics Tel: +44 (0) New Profile Wizard: Log Files on Local Disk: If the log files are on the local system select ‘Local Disk’ from the drop down and enter the pathname to the file containing the log file, or click [Browse] to select the file directly. Log Files on Remote System: If the log files are on a remote system select the appropriate option from the drop down and enter the required path to the logs. Once completed click Note** Sawmill will automatically retrieve the log files and ftp them back (to itself) for processing and publishing, wherever they are in the world. FTP is the most common method and Sawmill expects an ftp server to be present in the target system or device being analysed

Automatic Format Detection: Sawmill contains support for over 800 different log file formats Once the log file is downloaded Sawmill will automatically detect the format, and match it to its library You may be presented with more than one option Highlight the closest match to your log format and click Performance Analytics Tel: +44 (0) Note** log formats sometimes change or are updated by the original vendor without informing us, resulting in a supposedly supported log format not working, or not working correctly. If you can send us a sample log file we offer a free service to test and report back to you.

Database Option: All Sawmill products contain the Sawmill integrated database, designed specifically for storing and access of log files. Enterprise Edition also contains support for Oracle, MS-SQL Server, MySQL. (see Note**) Once you have made your database selection click: Performance Analytics Tel: +44 (0) Note** The Sawmill Database is faster and smaller for most regular applications, and its free, but an external SQL database scales better for very large datasets or for compatibility with corporate standards and popular third-party query tools

Name Your Profile: Give your Profile a name and enter it on this screen. Click Performance Analytics Tel: +44 (0)

View reports: Choose ‘Process Data & View Reports’ to build the database and go straight to your reports Or Choose ‘View Profile in Config’ to make changes to the configuration of your profile before building the database monitor | analyze | discover | report | improve Performance Analytics Tel: +44 (0)

Select: > Admin  Scheduler On you first visit to this screen there will be no reporting schedules set You can set up a new reporting schedule by clicking Performance Analytics Tel: +44 (0) Setting Preferences:

Scheduler Options: After selecting [New Schedule] on the previous screen you can now set up the time you would like to perform an action, and actions you would like to perform. The following ‘actions’ are available  Build a new database  Update a database  Remove database data  Generate report files (html, csv)  reports Complete the fields and save your settings by clicking: Performance Analytics Tel: +44 (0)

Select: > Admin  Users Manage/Add/Delete users and assign them access to profiles and roles. The Reports: If you checked ‘Process Data & View Reports’ on the previous screen Sawmill will now run and you will see the Overview Report From this report you can select any of the headings on the left to see other views of the data.
