2 Introducing EVERGREEN…

3 Performing a Search To perform a search, enter either a keyword, title, author, subject or series in the field provided and select the appropriate form from the drop down list. You may also want to select whether you wish to search for only books, music or any other format. Finally, if you wish to select a different location, please click on the drop down list next to Advanced Search before proceeding. Now, you are ready for Evergreen to locate your item. Just click Go!

4 Your Search Results At this point, on the right side of the window, all your search results will appear. You may need to forward to view all your results. Remember, if you restricted your search to a particular location, you will only find results for that location. Also, you will notice on the left side of the window several relevant subjects, authors and series will appear. These are different links that you may chose if you want to continue your search. Once you have selected the item you wish to view, click on the image or title.

5 Record Summary In this window, you will find more information about your item such as the publication date, publisher, the ISBN, and the edition. Notice at the bottom of this screen, you will find the call number, how many copies are available in that location and where it currently is in the circulation process. If you need to print a copy of the record summary, click on the link, Details. An option will appear, print these details, which will print a concise summary of your item. Next, we will discuss the Shelf Browser option.

6 Shelf Browser The Shelf Browser feature is a new and fantastic way to view the other materials surrounding your particular item. This represents the actual call numbers found before and after your item as it would appear on the shelves at the location you selected. The Shelf Browser may also be accessed by clicking on browse at the bottom of the screen while viewing the copy summary.

7 Placing an Item on Hold If you would like a library in the PINES system to hold an item that is currently not available at your local library, you can place that book on hold. To do this, click on Place Hold. If you are not currently logged into your personal account, you will be prompted to do so at this point. You have the option to edit the pick up location, the contact telephone number and the contact email address.

8 Advanced Search The Advanced Search option will allow you to filter, and narrow your results by specifically entering keywords that you wish to include in your search. Some options for filtering include limiting your results by a particular language or literary form such as an essay, non- fiction, or poetry. You have the opportunity to exclude certain words or phrases from your search results as well. Your search results can also sort by publication date, title, author or relevance. Other ways to search for material include entering the call number, ISBN, and MARC record.

9 My Account Account Summary To Log-In to your personal account, click My Account located on the first window. Enter your Username and Password. You may edit your Username, Password and Email Address at any time. Besides searching for a item located in the PINES system, you can perform several other actions. From this window, you may view your items checked out, your items on hold, fines, set your account preferences, and edit your “My Bookbags.”

10 My Account Items Checked Out Once you have logged into your account, you can view all the items you have checked out as of that date. You will find listed in this screen information such as the title of the item, the author, the due date, the number of renewals remaining along with an opportunity to renew that item. Below, you will also find any item(s) that need to be returned to the library.

11 My Account Items on Hold After logging into your account, you can also view all the items you have placed on hold. In this screen, you find the title, author, format, pickup location, and status. You also have the opportunity to edit your pick up location or your contact number. This window also gives you an opportunity to cancel the hold placed on that item.

12 My Account Fines While in your account, you can view the status of any fines you may have accrued. At the top of the screen, a summary of your fines is available for your convenience. Next, you will find a section detailing all information concerning overdue materials such as the transaction check out date, the due date, and the balance owed. Your other fees will show the last payment time, the balance owed and the billing type.

13 My Account Account Preferences You have some control over how your account will appear. Click on Account Preferences to set some different personal defaults. You may select how many hits or search returns you want to appear in a window. You may also decide to change your font size to large versus regular. In addition, you can change how you wish to be notified for items placed on hold. You can also select your default search location and your default search range.

14 My Account My Bookbags EVERGREEN has a unique option available in your personal account which will allow you to create, edit, delete and share personal “Bookbags.” As you peruse and discover new items you wish to read at a later date, you can create a “Bookbag” to store all your selected items. These “Bookbags” are actual links that you can email to your family and friends. They can view your “Bookbag” by clicking on that link and will not be able to edit or delete any items. You will learn next how to add items to your “Bookbags.”

15 Bookbags If you locate an item that you would like to read later or if you would like to create a reading list for family or friends, then use the Bookbag feature. Remember, you must be logged into your personal account. As shown, click on More Actions to select your Bookbag or to create one. Once selected, the item’s information will be included in your Bookbag. You can share this with family and friends.

16 When you want to review the items you have included in your Bookbags, just go to your “My Account” and click on “My Bookbags.” Next to each Bookbag you will see the column “Share/Hide.” For each Bookbag you can select either option. Click, “Share,” to allow that Bookbag to be shared with others. Once you click on the word “View” under the column labeled “Shared,” you will automatically be taken to the new link for you to give to your family and friends. Bookbags
