3Shape Communicate™ is a cloud service, hosted and operated by 3Shape, to allow Laboratories and clinics to easily exchange orders, comments, and 3D designs.
All exchanged data remains confidential - only the clinic and the lab will be able to access the orders between them.
Labs do not need a separate server to receive TRIOS orders, like e.g. a dedicated FTP – 3Shape takes care of this
The Communicate™ service is free for both Labs (up to 2Gb) and clinics*

How to prepare for TRIOS orders
In order for Clinics to sends orders to your lab, you must first decide which type of restorations and materials, you want to offer. Then both lab and clinic have to create their own 3Shape Communicate Account, so that Clinics can send orders to the lab’s TRIOS inbox via 3Shape Communicate.
Create a new Lab Communicate™ Account
Go to – if in Europe
Go to – if in North and South America
Click “Register” on the login page.
Click ”Register a Dental Lab” if a lab
Click ”Register a Dental Clinic” if a dentist
Fill in the registration form. Remember to use an account that is monitored throughout the day. This is also the used by clinics to find you!
Click “Register”
You will receive an activation , in which you need to click the link to confirm and activate the account.

4. Settings 3Shape Communicate
In the Settings Tab, you will be able to see all your personal information that you used to register with on communicate.
You can also Edit your user information: such as clinic or lab name and contact information

5. Connections 3Shape Communicate
The Connections tab is where you will find all of your connections and add or delete connections
To add a lab( if you have a clinic account) or a clinic (if you are a lab), click on “Add Connection” button and input the lab or clinic’s account and hit “find”, check “ I agree” and hit “connect”
The other party must accept connection request- in order to become your connection

Go into Dental System control panel and choose 3Shape Communicate
All 2013 Dental System users have “TRIOS Inbox” enabled in their dongle.
Under “3Shape Communicate Integration” click “enable” and click “configure” & configure 3ShapeCommunicate™ with the newly created user and password. Make sure all folder paths are filled out under “advanced.” Leave “Inbox auto accept” under “TRIOS Inbox” unchecked

Click “sites” in the Control Panel – to set up the doctor’s info
Click on “add dentist” and fill out all highlighted areas.
Once in the “Order Form”, if you want to doctor to approve the case before you manufacture it click on the “communicate icon”

Configuring Dental System™ - Receiving Orders in Dental System
Check the TRIOS Inbox from time to time for new incoming TRIOS orders from customers
Press the F5 key to refresh manually
Click 3Shape Communicate button to launch your browser
Accept the order. It will be moved from the Inbox to the Orders list. You will be prompted to enter a delivery date which the dentist will then see on their TRIOS/ / browser

NOTE: Remember … It’s possible to use the browser to monitor the order flow remotely – away from the office, and without access to Dental Manager. It’s possible to send messages to the Dentist from within Dental Manager. Order status is automatically communicated to the Dentist.

Informing your Customers
With everything set up, you are now ready to inform all your doctors, that you are ready to receive their digital impressions…
The lab informs their customers that they are now ready to connect through Shape Communicate™
Since clinics cannot search for your lab on 3Shape Communicate™, you will have to proactively provide them your lab name or address ( to learn how your communicate account can be posted on the website)

Dentists can create a new Dentist / Clinic Communicate™ account using a browser
How to create a Clinic Account
Go to if in Europe
Go to – if in the United States (the rest of the Americas will be added to this server by the fall of 2013)
Click “Register” in the log-in box
Chose “Dental Clinic”
Fill in the registration form, using an address used often, as this is the mail addressed used to send notifications about adding new lab connections, accepted/rejected orders, new designs etc..
Click ”Register” and shortly after, you receive a confirmation mail – you need to click the link in the mail, before the account is fully activated.
NOTE: If in doubt about the TRIOS dongle number, then uncheck the check box “I have a 3Shape Dongle”..

Once the Clinic has an account, it needs to let the different labs know that it wants to send them orders. To do so, the clinic adds “Connections”.
Instructions for the clinic:
Log in, using your newly created account ( address and password)
Click on “Connections” page, then click “Add Connection” button.
Search for the Lab, using their exact name or address (exactly as they registered). Click “Find”
Click on the lab’s name in the Result box, Enter your message, and click “Connect”

You will see that the lab has to approve/accept your request (Waiting for approval).
The lab receives an , and naturally approves the new connection. Once approved, the status will change to “active”

When the lab has accepted your connection request, the lab name will appear under “Lab connections” on the TRIOS cart and become available in the order form screen as well.
