Diabetes Cody Hoffman and Vision Xiong

What is it? Diabetes is characterized by the inability of the body to control it’s blood sugar level. High blood sugar is known as hyperglycemia and is control by the hormone insulin. So diabetes interferes with the creation and secretion of insulin.

How do you get Diabetes? Diabetes isn’t something contagious. You will often inherit diabetes more likely if previous ancestors have it.

How does Diabetes affect your diet? You have to have a scheduled diet and you can never have too little or too much sugar, or your body will malfunction, and you’ll get sick, and could possibly die.

Is there a cure? Or is there a way of life, why do people choose to eat this way? There’s no specific cure for diabetes. You can follow certain procedures much or proper diet and exercise to help cope with it. If you want to live to your full lifespan potential, you should follow healthy eating lifestyle.

What do you have to do with you diet to be able to “live” with this medical condition? 5 steps – 1. Make an appointment to discuss your health with you health team. 2. Follow your diet. The American Diabetes Association recommends: Grains, beans, and starchy vegetables. - Fruit: 2-4 servings per day. Vegetables: 3-5 servings a day – Meat, fish, and cheese: 2-3 servings a day – Milk and Yogurt: 2-3 servings per day – Fats, sweets, and alcohol: small amounts. 3. Exercise regularly 4. Take your medications as directed 5. Keep your records updated.

How does exercise play a role in having a healthy lifestyle with this medical condition or without it? Exercising regularly will benefit you a lot when you’re diabetic. It will use the insulin more effectively because the effects of the insulin depends on the intensity of the workout.

How do you think technology has played a role in this medical condition becoming more of a concern in this day and age? Today Diabetes became more of a concern because of smoking, drinking, and eating fast food so frequently.

What are some recipes that you could make to create a day’s menu for a diabetic? Breakfast- Cereal, diabetic can eat any cereal as long as it suffices 2.5 g of fiber. Lunch- Tuna salad, Whole wheat bread, romaine lettuce, cream of totato soup, milk, 100 calorie pack of cookies. Dinner- All american beef stew- There’s many g of fiber and carbs that will suffice your diabetic needs.

Additional facts 1. Diabetes in Asians is five time the rate of the white population. 2. Diabetes is the number one cause of kidney failure in the world.

Nutrition Essential Questions 1. I learned that there are different types of Diabetes and you should follow a certain lifestyle to survive. I connect to this because my Grandpa has Diabetes and now I know what he goes through. 2. Being diabetic means you have easily changing Blood sugars, so you need to follow specific diets. 3. I exercise often, but I don’t follow a diet. 4. Researching this taught me that you should eat food with a balanced carbs and more fibers. 5. The more often you exercise and eat more nutrionally, the more probable you will have a longer lifespan.
