Planning for College and Military THURSDAY, MAY

Remaining Test Dates – make sure you sign up! ACT’s June 14 th, 2014 SAT & SAT Subject Test June 7th, 2o14 East CEEB code is CB East is a test center for these dates noted with an East test center code is 39162

What to do before end of junior year… Develop a Personal Statement for your applications. Develop/update your Resume in Naviance and indicate what your potential major might be under “game plan”. Review application essay from Career Plan 11. From your research, develop a list of 7-10 schools and do extensive research. Trim the list of 10 colleges to 3-7 by September of senior year…be sure to consider varying degrees of competitiveness. Consider and contact teachers for letters of recommendation!!! Complete “Counselor Recommendation Request” form on Naviance. (Only some schools require a letter from counselors.)

A look ahead…senior timeline FALLWinter/SPRING Complete applications and formally request recommendations from teachers. Apply for Financial Aid using and CSS Profile financial-aid-profile (if required) financial-aid-profile Take SAT/ACT/Subject Tests and have Scores sent, if required. Mid-year grades will automatically be sent to colleges based on transcript requests. Submit transcript request forms to Senior House Office. Make final decision regarding school selection. Send housing deposit. Attend Financial Aid Night in November, Complete Senior Survey in Naviance indicating college of choice. That’s where final transcript will be sent. Request to have 1 st marking period grades sent to college, if required. Keep a rigorous academic schedule and maintain grades.

Planning for Military…

3 Military Paths 1. Enlisted Personnel – 5 Branches Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard 2. ROTC - Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Some students participate to receive ROTC scholarships which can be 2-4 year scholarships. 3. Officer Candidate School – Selective & Intense Process The U. S. Military Academy, The U.S. Naval Academy, The U.S. Air Force Academy, The U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy They train graduates to meet the demands of leadership and success. Every student selected is on a full scholarship. Students must begin the application process for these schools in their junior year.

Career Plan Requirement – Senior Year There are 2 requirements for CP for senior year – why not get them done now? College/Job Application – you can use your common app or specific college you have applied for Resume – if you have not updated your resume in Naviance, do it now or over the summer
