2 PURPOSE OF SENIOR PARENT COLLEGE APPLICATION NIGHT Assist you and your senior with the application process To Discuss: Application procedures Transcript requests Letters of recommendation

3 Applying Online Start by checking application deadlines Begin applications with earliest deadline first Apply either through the college website or Common Application website (commonapp.org) APPLICATION PROCEDURES

7 THE COMMON APPLICATION The Common Application is a college admission application that may be used to apply to over 500 colleges and universities

16 Teacher Recommendations If Required: Ask two teachers in person Use recommendation form for teachers- available in the Counseling Center and on the website Put teacher recommendation request in Naviance Give at least 3 weeks notice Check Naviance to see when letters have been completed Note - Once uploaded, you will not be able to read teacher recommendations ITEMS SENT FROM CHEROKEE

17 Process: Click on Colleges Click on Colleges I’m Applying To Click on Add/Cancel Requests Select teacher’s name from drop down box Click Update Requests Check Naviance to see when letters have been completed You MUST tell teachers if you need the common application forms completed TEACHERS RECOMMENDATIONS IN NAVIANCE

19 Transcripts Complete a transcript request form for each transcript needed Available in both Counseling Centers and on Counseling Center website After all steps are complete, give to the registrar: Mrs. Prickett (north) or Mrs. Kosienski (south) Please note: All students must have a permission to transmit pupil records form on file. 22 MID-YEAR REPORTS AND FINAL TRANSCRIPTS Submit a mid-year transcript request form for mid-year grades Forms will be available to students in the 2 nd marking period In June– students must report to the appropriate registrar which college they will be attending

23 ITEMS SENT FROM CHEROKEE Counselor Recommendations Use the same procedure for teacher recommendation via Naviance Fill out the counselor form for letter of recommendation found in the ABOUT ME tab in Naviance Indicate on the transcript request form that a letter of recommendation is needed

24 DEADLINES Important Dates to Remember Leave at least 2 weeks for the letters of recommendations and transcripts requested to be processed November 11 th for all December 1 st deadlines December 1 st for all mailings before Winter Break ** We CANNOT honor same day requests for transcripts

25 SAT/ ACT TEST SCORES Sent Directly from Testing Agency 4 free score reports when registering for SAT’s SAT scores are sent as quickly as possible to you, chosen colleges, and scholarship programs Within 9 days of taking the test, you can change or remove a college from score report If you need to order more than four score reports, or send score reports more than 9 days after, it will cost $11.25 for each TESTING WEBSITES www.collegeboard.orgwww.collegeboard.org www.actstudent.orgwww.actstudent.org

NJ STARS (New Jersey Student Tuition Assistance Reward Scholarship) www.njstars.net Scholarship covers tuition and fees for NJ community colleges Requirements: Top 15% of class In past, weighted class rank has determined eligibility Students must complete a rigorous series of high school courses
