7 Fall 2015 Meet with Counselor Schedule – Academic Rigor – 1 st Term SATs / ACTs / Subject Tests Naviance & Common App Deadlines! Apps complete by December break – Scholarships Semester 2!

8 Responsibilities- Who Does What Counselor: Official transcripts School profile report Guidance letter of recommendation Common App school report forms (Initial, mid year and final) Teacher: Letter of recommendation Student: Application and fee* Essay Resume (where applicable) Test scores through Collegeboard Pink sheet returned to Guidance 2 weeks prior to deadline ***FERPA release between CommonApp and Naviance ***

9 College Application Process Students Update Naviance Account Complete Senior Information Survey Common App Account / Ferpa Ferpa Waiver allows Guidance to send transcript and letters of recommendation electronically and directly to the college NCAA is treated as a College and must be listed as a college Apply online at NCAA clearinghouse and authorize electronic release of transcripts

10 Assessing Yourself Colleges will require many pieces of information to make an admission decision. We refer to this as hard data and soft data. Hard Data - GPA, SAT Scores 4.0 scale No class rank / report in decile Colleges may recalculate MA State Colleges & Universities (minimum GPA) Soft Data - activities, community service, recommendations, Essay

11 Standardized Testing SAT Reasoning Test SAT Subject Tests Formerly called SAT 1 * Formerly called SAT 2 3 Sections * One hour in length * Writing * Required by the most * Critical Reading competitive colleges * Math Deadline to register:* Check admissions Sept 22 nd for Oct 3 rd test requirements for the Oct 9 th for Dec 7 th test colleges you are Cost- $54.50 /Fee waiver considering

27 Communication Just a word about communication: Every effort is made to notify students and parents about upcoming events, college visits to EBJSHS, college fairs, open houses, etc. Email is fastest to parents (make sure we have yours) Announcements are quickest to students; Announcements are posted on EBHS website
