MINISTRY OF TOURISM APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROGRAMME
The programme is designed to provide Apprentices with the technical skills and work experience necessary to succeed in today’s fast-paced tourism and hospitality industry Upon successful completion Apprentices will receive: –The regionally recognized CaribCert certification within their core areas of concentration –Certificate of recognition from the Minister of Tourism –Certificate in Hospitality Studies
Apprentices receive a scholarship package valued from CI$15,000 to CI$18,000 (depending on the core course pursued) to cover the cost associated with the training: –Tuition –Uniforms –Training Materials & Tools –Apprentice stipend
Courses are delivered by: –The University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) –The International College of the Cayman Islands (ICCI) –Close collaboration with the tourism and hospitality private sector
It’s a one year full time programme comprised of the following key stages: – FOUNDATION COURSES (Sep – Dec) Numeracy Skills Vocational English Computer Literacy Customer Service Overview of Tourism in the Cayman Islands Workplace Environment – CARIBCERT CORE COMPETENCY COURSES (Jan – Apr) – ON THE JOB TRAINING (May – Aug) * Additionally, all Apprentices have to undertake First Aid Training and all Food Preparation and Food & Beverage Apprentices, have to undertake Food & Hygiene Safety Training in addition to First Aid Training.
