The American black bear is a medium-sized bear native of North America. Black bears are omnivores. Their diets depend on season and location. Black bears are experts at climbing trees Black bears have 3 reasons why they climb trees; To escape danger, To eat the nuts or fruit that are in the trees; and to rest or sleep.

Bears may eat up to 20 hours a day. Black bears have excellent memories. Bears are able to learn about food types and locations, and are able to remember where they go. Black bears can run 30 to 35 miles and can easily run up and down hills. Black bears have good eyesight.

Black bears are very opportunistic eaters. Most of their diet consists of grasses, roots, berries, and insects. They will also eat fish and mammals including carrion, and easily develop a taste for human foods and garbage.

Black bears are extremily adaptable and show a great variation in habitat types, And they are found in forested areas, black bears due to their shy and solitary nature, so they mainly live in heavily forested areas.

In North America, the black bear (Ursus americanus) is the most common species of bear. In fact the black bear is found in 41 of the 50 states in the U.S.A. While the brown bear is Eurasian in origin the black bear is currently thought to have evolved in North America about two million years ago.
