Quizzes and Exams There will be a quiz every Thursday during your Lecture Section. Your two lowest quiz grades will be dropped – No cell phones, smart phones, iphones, ipads, computers, or other communication devices are allowed during quizzes & exams – Single question pop quizzes are possible throughout the week There will be no make-ups for quizzes There will be a comprehensive final exam, the date and time of which, will be announced later in the semester

Homework All homework is done online using the website masteringchemistry.com. An access code is included in the textbook bundle purchased at the north bookstore. If you purchase a used book, you will need to purchase an access code separately from the north bookstore. Homework assignments will be assigned for each chapter and will be due typically 7 to 10 days after the assignment has been posted. You will have a minimum of 3 hours of homework per chapter!

Communications Most important information regarding assignments, quizzes, grades, etc. will be announced by and in class – If you do not use your university account, you need to provide me with an active account for communication purposes I maintain a wikispace on which I post lecture slides, grades, quiz answer keys, etc. – You will receive an invitation to join using your university for registration I will also open a blackboard account for the 1 st time to determine which system is superior from your and my perspectives

Grading Course grade is based upon the following formula: 40% quizzes 30% homework 5% class participation 25% final exam There will be no extra credit or other class assignments that will be used for the calculation of a grade. The grading will be based on: A > 94%, A %, B %, B 83-86%, B %, C %, C 73-76%, C %, D %, D 60-65%, F <60%

Mathematics Chemistry 2 is math intensive. You are encouraged to review logs, natural logs, use of the quadratic equation, significant figures, use of conversion factors, etc.

TO SUCEED IN CHEMISTRY 2 READ THE CHAPTER THOROUGHLY REREAD CHAPTER AND OUTLINE KEY POINTS WORK THROUGH SOLVED CHAPTER EXAMPLES DO ODD # END-OF-CHAPTER PROBLEMS AND CHECK YOUR ANSWERS IN THE BOOK’S ANSWER KEY DO THE HOMEWORK (a gift that if used wisely, given the unlimited attempts policy, it will bring up your final grade) PLAN ON A 10 HOUR PER WEEK COMMITMENT FOR THIS COURSE, MINIMUM TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE CHEMISTRY TUTORING CENTER IN OLNEY 407. IT IS STAFFED BY upper division CHEM MAJORS AND BY SOME PROFESSORS
